Watch. Think. Feel. Enjoy.
Welcome to the home of Unpopular Culture, an upstart film production company run by Sachin Dharwadker in Madison, Wisconsin. Less a “company” than a formal label for Sachin’s cinematic escapades, Unpopular Culture produces narrative short films that both entertain and provoke thought. Someday, Sachin wants to help make that combination cool again.
Often these days, movies entertain too much and think too little. Others think too much without entertaining. A balance is required—a balance that makes viewers enjoy thinking and feeling. The best filmmakers mastered this balance, but many of them are dead. A handful of directors and screenwriters working today have hit it at some point in their careers, but there aren’t enough of them and they aren’t consistent enough.
What you see here is Sachin honing his skills at achieving that balance. Why? Because that balance is crucial to preserving the film industry as something more than a money pot. If smart, appealing movies continue to fade away at the current rate, more people like Michael Bay will find employment, and the next Bergman will be homeless. Yikes.
